>> CONSIDER YOUR OPTIONS:
Essentially, you have three options. Three of which both have their
pro's and con's. Ultimately, its your choice. This page is
designed to inform you of the actual 'cost' of your ticket, not just the
'amount due' portion.
When an officer issues you a ticket, he is essentially 'telling the
authority on you'. Just like back in your child hood, a sibling or
a friend tells your mom you've behaved inappropriately. Once
hearing both sides of the story, the power lies with your mom to punish
you or not. You might have had special reasons for your actions,
and after all, your mom knows best.
That's exactly what an officer is doing, being the witness and
reporting you. You are always innocent until proven guilty.
In this case, the Judge plays the role you mom used to play.
Deciding to pay the ticket is equivalent to agreeing to all the
accusations and accepting the pre-defined punishments blind folded,
without anyone hearing you out. Do you really want that?
Even if your guilty of the crime, you really might not deserve the
pre-defined punishment. Why not explain your situation to the
judge and let him decide?
OPTION 1: TAKE TO TRIAL
It's because of option 1 we're in business. To help
represent you in trial. Not everyone knows the procedures, the
protocols and have the ability to challenge the prosecutors.
We take your side, put together a case and present it to the Judge.
OPTION 2: GUILTY
This is the option where you agree to everything and pay your
fine. Your conviction remains in the Ministry of
Transportation database for 3 three years, or if it's an accident
it's recorded for 6 years. Demerit points remain on your
account for 2 years. The ministry constantly sends this
information to insurance companies where your premiums and policies
are determined.
OPTION 3: GUILTY WITH AN EXPLANATION
Traffic offences are the only offences that have this option.
This option is for people who like to avoid court, feel that
their guilty, but like to explain why they did what they did, in an
attempt to receive some reduction. There is no chance for your
conviction to be dropped, and your reason must be pretty convincing
to receive a significant reduction.
